With brand new Xbox One games costing upwards of £40, not many of us can afford to buy every single AAA title. Thankfully, there are some great free Xbox One releases you can download now that will give you hours of gameplay time without having to spend any money whatsoever - perfect for those rainy weekends when you're a bit bored of what you're playing.
We've been through them all and found the seven that you absolutely need to play.
We've lost count of the times we've asked our mate to hold our beer while we spend a few quid being rubbish at any pinball machine we find lurking in the corner of a pub - regardless of the theme.
Well, since our dosh is often dwindling, we've taken to playing the excellent Pinball FX2 in all its various forms. Whether you've got a penchant for The Walking Dead, SouthPark or even Star Wars, this pinball sim pretty much has something for everyone.
Its leaderboard system will have you competing asynchronously with other skilled pinball wizards all vying for the coveted top spot.
You start off with only the Sorcerer's Lair table for free, but if you fork out a quid or two you can nab yourself some of the themed tables. Collecting pinball tables just became incredibly affordable.
Anyone who has ever wanted to create their own video game should give Project Spark a quick download. This free-to-play title from Microsoft Studios allows you to create your own experiences, play through adventures created by others and get inspired.
It's a bit like a free version of Minecraft or LittleBigPlanet, as it's your job to create new things and then share them with other gamers.
There's not an in-game payment in sight, everything is there for you to enjoy.
Most people enjoy multiplayer online battle arenas (MOBA) with a keyboard and mouse, but it is possible to enjoy a MOBA on Xbox One nowadays. Meet Smite.
This free-to-play Xbox One title takes the things you know and love from a MOBA but makes it fit to play on console, introducing features such as an over-the-shoulder camera view rather than a bird's eye angle. Point-and-click controls are gone too, with you instead having full control over your character - just like a standard multiplayer game.
There's plenty of content that you can enjoy for free. Cash only gets you all the current and future gods, or you can spend money on gems. The latter we advise you shouldn't do, but the gods might tempt you if you play a lot of Smite.
World of Tanks fills all our childish fantasies of being able to drive a tank. But it also takes it to another level as it lets you take said tank into a 30-person online skirmish and experience tank warfare for yourself.
There are a plethora of historical tanks that you can try out, so even the most knowledgeable tank enthusiast will be able to find something they like.
What's more, you can play with your mates on Xbox 360 too as the game's multiplayer spans console generations.
Not many players will invest any dosh here, but if you're a real tank enthusiast you might buy yourself some of the more exclusive vehicles.
The classic fighting game has comboed its way onto Xbox One, kicking and karate-chopping towards your library.
Without having to spend a single penny, you get access to a rotating cast of free-to-play characters and the more you play, the more in-game content you'll unlock for free. This free version is actually season two of the game and season three will soon be inbound.
If you want to speed up the unlocks or get an entire season's worth of content, you can spend some real-world cash, but there's plenty to enjoy either way.
If you're a big fan of the Titan sections of Titanfall 2, you may want to consider Hawken. This free-to-play competitive shooter is a mixture of Mechwarrior and Team Fortress in which each hunk of metal has a specialised role.
With a huge amount of mechs on offer, substantial customisation, and gorgeous environments to slog it out in, there's little not to like here. Although the game only made it to consoles in 2016, it's been around on PC for much longer, allowing the dev team to bring much of that experience and complexity to the gamepad.
It's not all guns and tanks in the world of free-to-play on Xbox One. Download Powerstar Golf from Zoe Mode and you'll discover that there's been a stylish golf game with a lot to offer just waiting to be played.
The more you tee off, the more new clubs and balls you'll unlock, helping to turn your cartoonish cartoon into a real pro. The game tracks your progress and allows you to challenge your Xbox Live friends to beat your (hopefully) impressive scores.
Without spending any money whatsoever, you get to play a hole from every course. You can play all of these limitlessly, earn yourself some experience points and play around with improving your game.
If you do want to spend some money, you can buy a pack of four full courses for £4.79, or buy the full game for £15.99.
The free version is much more than a demo though, but we've already invested in the full version too because we loved it so much.
If you're looking for a more traditional Xbox One experience, then Warframe may be the third-person shooter you've been searching for. You can grab some friends or play with strangers, but regardless, you'll be able to blast away at enemies to your heart's content. It's already had great success on PS4 and PC, so it's time for Xbox One owners to get in on the action.
We've had plenty of fun with Warframe without spending a single real-world coin, but there are financial temptations there if you want.
